I'm Interested

I'm interested to know about food, friends. I'm interested to know what you love. If you would take a moment and let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. I'm interested.

I'll start. Here are some of my favorites.

1. Favorite all-around type of food: (American, Mexican, Thai, Italian, etc.)

While I have recently been having a small affair with Thai food, I'm going to have to say that my long-time fave is Mexican food. I don't especially love places like "El Torrito," which is, in my definition actually American fare. I like the real, nitty-gritty down-south Mexican food. Here in LA we have EBJ, Carlsbad was Juanitas, and of course if you drive just 45 more minutes down the coast you can cross the border and get some of the authentic stuff. A good roadside taco stand can't be beat, especially after a day in the ocean surf. If you haven't experienced that, put it on your list. I also like homemade Mexican food, from right here in my kitchen. Fajitas, tacos, enchaladas, quesadillas, carne asada and carnitas, a squeeze of lime...mmm....all good things.

2. Favorite breakfast:

I love eggs benedict (thanks to my dear husband), but my waist does not like eggs benedict. So I am going to have to say that Special K Red Berries with FF milk and a cup of herbal tea would be my current fave. It is quick and easy and crunchy and a little sweet and that is what I need right now.

3. Favorite Dessert:

OH! Where to begin....I can not choose just one. It is a close race between creme brulee and tiramisu. Those are my two all time faves.

4. Favorite snack:

Veggies and hummus OR fresh ww bread with raw honey OR farmer's market trail mix.

5. Favorite candy:

I love the York....but I can't leave out grape Laffy Taffy.

6. Favorite restaurant:

This one is hard, because now we have lived in a couple different places, I have my favorites from each location. Right now, here in South Bay, I would have to say that Dragonfly Thai is my fave, but I am still searching....suggestions?

7. Favorite drink:

I'm a Coke girl from birth, but I know it's not good for me, so I drink water...and lots of it! Every now and then I will treat myself to a good 'ole Coke, but that doesn't happen very often. Fresh homemade lemonade is really delish too. On a hot summer day....mmmm.

Okay, let's hear it people. Share. Vent. Be interesting...because I'm interested.

If we're talking about things I eat when I'm not considering caloric value here you go. The menu is totally different when I consider my waistline.
food: I'm half Mexican so that's just food to me. I'm going to say French, but I can't get enough Italian or Vietnamese
breakfast: my mom's burritos (scrambled egg, beans, cheese, fried potatoes and salsa); or my dad's "Scottish" hashbrowns (hashbrowns, fried egg, Ranchero salsa, cheese) (OK, that's just about the same thing but the presentation is very different).
dessert: chocolate suffle with whipped cream and fresh berries - or key lime pie
snack: Granny smith apple with extra sharp Tillamook cheddar.
candy: anything covered in dark chocolate
restaurant: I have great memories of a romantic little restaurant in Dallas - The Grape - where my husband and I learned to love baked brie with honey and grapes, also filet mignon and homemade cream of mushroom soup. In the South Bay I love Pedone's pizza and Pho Hana
drink: sparkling juices of all kinds
love, M

Disclaimer: Don't use my answers against me, and I've come a long way. (My mom was too ill to cook growing up, so our meals got much better after I learned to make a white sauce in 7th grade Home Ec class.)

1. Mandarin (Does that sound sophisticated?) I love the combination of foods and flavors and vegetables, and I'm only referring to really authentic Mandarin. This question deserves a disclaimer too. When you said Mexican, Italian or Thai I totally thought of El Pollo Loco, Olive Garden, and Phuket, but not because I've been there and only because I laugh at the American 'ph' sound of it.

2. Hands down French Toast, the way my mother-in-law taught me how to make it with flour batter and deep fried. And home-made syrup, which I learned how to make growing up because we were too poor to buy the real stuff. But usually plain eggs with salt and an orange.

3. Honestly I've never thought of this. I love a dessert that isn't too sweet, has some texture, and a combination of different tastes. I'd probably have to say that Williams Sonoma dessert you made for the party. (Still haven't found the recipe and searched the website) Chocolate, cheese, coconut. You can't go wrong.

4. Chips. Pita, Cinnamon, Salt and Vinegar Pringles, Cheetos, Fritos, stale Lays...I'll eat anything.

5. Anything chocolate and especially chocolate covered sunflower seeds.

6. I agree this one is hard. I don't have one. I have favorite dishes at different restaurants for my different moods. Right now I could go for Macadamia Nut Crusted Halibut at Claim Jumper. My ultimate fav which I probably could eat daily and did once before is Chicken Green Chili Salad from Bajio in Utah.

7. Mother Earth's beverage: Water. Diet-Coke, Fresca, and Lemonade respectively 2, 3, and 4th.

Thanks, this was fun.
