Around the Table

When I was a wee girl we sat around the table for dinner, nearly every night. My goal was to eat as fast as humanly possible and run! Little did I know how enjoyable those dinners around the table could be! Last night we had salmon. Grilled salmon with an orange-garlic-cayenne marinade. It was accompanied by sweet corn and sticky white rice...and Crystal Light lemonade. We sat around the table as a family of five. Spontaneous singing by Quin...telling us he LOVED that song. Plate cleaning by Cole (not to mention helping his brothers clean theirs too!) and Ewan draping his fork with his napkin then saying, "Ta Dah!" I love to sit around the table with my husband and kids at dinnertime. I hate to say, that it doesn't happen often enough, but last night's experience has reminded me about the sanctity of family dinner. I guess, it has to be on the weekends only (Tim's job poses a dilemma: kids are starving by 5:30/6 and Tim is coming in the door at 6:30/7), anyways, I have a renewed conviction and I look forward to many future dinners....around the table. Tell me about your dinnertime.

We love dinner time at our house. WE are very FORTUNATE to eat almost 7 days a week together at the table. I'm sure those days are numbered with the tween boys I have and teenage-hood right around the corner but we love it to. It's a rarity these days!

I also love those family dinners. Sometimes it gets a little irritating when my 2 yr old constantly wants to sit on my lap while we it, and I try to teach him to sit in his own chair, but I guess I should enjoy the time while I can. I want to sit at your table and try that yummy marinade you made for your fish!!!!

We try to eat around the table every night. Each night, Emily talks about the boys that chase the girls and tell them they like them. Jacob talks about all of the girls that chase him, but are too slow, and Kamri sits quietly and listening, piping in her 2 cents now and then. It really is quite interesting. It makes us laugh and gives us great teaching moments. Thanks for the post! It's great to think about.

i want the recipe/ingredients for your marinade, please...and i too think family dinners are so needed...i always picture my family dinners to be amazing but they are so filled with random conversations, complaints, poking and other oddities, but even with all that I am so thankful to eat with my 5 favorite people!
